No Hashgachah Needed

November 19, 2024

Kosher certification agencies ensure that food we eat is kosher, but there are some foods that consumers – and kosher agencies – can use, even if they do not bear certification.  These tend to be foods that are made from relatively simple ingredients which are raw or minimally processed, and, thereby, avoid the possibility that they contain problematic ingredients, were processed on equipment used for non-kosher, or have halachic issues such as insect infestation, bishul akum, and the like.

The following is a list of items which cRc Kosher has determined can be purchased anywhere in the United States or Canada, even if it is not certified as kosher.

Notes:

  • The items listed must be free of additives
  • Food items from Israel have special kashrus considerations, and should, therefore, only be used with certification
  • For the status of spices that are not listed here and fresh fruits and vegetables, search for the specific item at ASKcRc.com
  • This list does not apply for Pesach
