Rice Cereal

Q. We've been told not to use commercially produced rice cereal on Pesach. What can we substitute for that?

A. Commercial rice cereal is not recommended for Pesach because of the possibility that oatmeal flakes might inadvertently be mixed in, and because a chametz enzyme may be used in the processing. Instead, you can prepare your own rice cereal at home as long as you use specially designated pots and utensils (since rice is kitnios) and do not wash those items in the Pesach sink. The internet has plenty of recipes for home-made rice cereal, and a common one is to grind rice in a blender, and then cook it up at a ratio of 1 cup water to every quarter cup of ground rice.
