Q. Your Pesach Guide says that frozen fruit may be used without hashgachah if it is not sweetened or cooked. What if the ingredient panel says that it contains ascorbic acid, citric acid or sugar?
A. Ascorbic and citric acid can be chametz or kitnios (or innocuous), and we therefore cannot recommend anything uncertified that contains these ingredients. However, since sugar does not pose a Pesach concern, fruit sweetened with sugar (without any other ingredients) is acceptable for Pesach.
