Q. Why does a truck wash need a hechsher?
A. Tanker trucks that carry liquid products must be dedicated to carry only kosher products, so that no b'liah (absorbed taste) of non-kosher product is absorbed into the kosher product. Separately, the wash facility that cleans the truck between products will sometimes reuse water from one truck to another, such that b'liah may transfer from a non-kosher truck to a kosher one. [Similarly, there are times that the water is heated in a manner which allows for cross-contamination.] A truck wash which is set up in a manner that does not pose a problem, can be certified as "kosher", which essentially means that it is suitable for the washing of dedicated-kosher tanker trucks.
