Porcelain Sink

Q. My daughter is renting an apartment that has a porcelain sink in the kitchen. How can she use the kitchen sink?

A. Unfortunately, there is no way to kasher a porcelain sink. Therefore, if the sink was previously used for non-kosher, no kosher dishes or other items can be placed directly into the sink. Instead, your daughter should purchase a plastic bowl or basin, and place it into the sink. All dishes etc. should be placed into that basin, and all dishwashing should be done there as well. It is okay to pour out the wash-water into the sink, but no kosher dishes should ever touch that sink.
