Q. Is instant oatmeal fully cooked? Can one make it on Shabbos?


A. The reason "instant" oatmeal can be prepared without a long cooking process is not because they are cooked at the company, but rather because the company cuts the oats a bit finer and rolls them somewhat thinner so that they'll cook more easily. Accordingly, one may not prepare instant oatmeal (or any other kind of oatmeal) on Shabbos, since they are not pre-cooked in the factory.
