Q. I've noticed that the dried apricots which I buy often have white or brown spots on them. Are these bugs? They don't look at all like bugs but what else could they be?
A. Rabbi Yaakov M. Eisenbach, our Rabbinic Coordinator for Food Service, checked the spots and confirmed that they are not any form of insect. After researching the issue further, he believes that what you are seeing is a fungal growth which is common in dried apricots.
